Greenway Growth = Greater Value: What This New Trail Means for Knoxville Homebuyers

Knoxville Invests $1M in New Greenway Connection Along North Broadway

One of the many reasons people love living in Knoxville is our growing network of greenways and walking trails that make it easy to enjoy the outdoors, stay active, and explore different parts of the city. And now, that network is about to expand again.

The City of Knoxville recently dedicated $1 million to a new greenway project along North Broadway. This future trail will connect to the existing 125-mile greenway system, improving accessibility and making it easier than ever to navigate between neighborhoods, parks, and downtown without ever getting in your car.

The new greenway will stretch between Woodland Avenue and the existing First Creek Greenway, located just south of Cecil Avenue. In addition to the trail itself, this funding will cover ADA accessibility upgrades, pedestrian crossings, and sidewalk improvements, making this area safer and more walkable for everyone.

The city is also planning to acquire the necessary property to bring the project to life. While the final design hasn’t been released yet, the vision is clear—Knoxville is investing in smart, sustainable infrastructure that enhances quality of life and encourages healthy, connected communities.

This investment is part of a broader trend we’ve been seeing in the area. Over the last year, there have been major improvements along North Broadway, including a raised median and new sidewalks near the I-640 interchange. And with future projects like the proposed South Knoxville rail-to-trail connection near Chapman Highway and Ijams Nature Center, it’s clear that greenways are becoming a central focus of Knoxville’s development strategy.

For homebuyers and current residents alike, these enhancements mean more than just scenic walking paths. Greenways can increase property values, support local businesses, and create vibrant, livable neighborhoods. If you're thinking about relocating to Knoxville or investing in property near these trail systems, now is a great time to explore your options.

As always, I’d love to help you find a home that fits your lifestyle—especially if being close to green space is a priority.
